The WSU Tri-Cities Writing Center is a free, drop-in, peer tutoring service and academic resource available to all students, of any discipline, during any phase of the writing process.
As a positive, encouraging learning community, the Writing Center is designed to support students as they clarify an assignment, develop writing skills and articulate their ideas. From research papers to resumes and creative narratives to lab reports, our goal is to help students develop their voice and become better writers in a collaborative environment.
You are always welcome in the Writing Center.
Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays:
10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Wednesdays, Thursdays:
10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
What to expect of your consultation?
Your 30-minute consultation will begin by addressing larger-scale difficulties (such as understanding the assignment, overall organization or research challenges) before moving on to more specific, paragraph level challenges (such as thesis, sentence structure, transitions or citations). Proofreading and revision strategies will be discussed as time allows.
You may drop-in at your convenience, however, to have the greatest benefit, sign up early during an assignment as there could be a wait time, especially around midterms and finals weeks.
All peer writing consultants are students at WSU, so they are uniquely prepared to help you navigate writing in an academic setting or other writing concerns, including the following:
As a drop-in Writing Center, our consultants are available to answer quick questions or conduct consultations of up to 30 minutes each. You are welcome to visit to work on assignments, ask questions, use our resources, or pick up handouts.
Please note consultants are not editors or proofreaders. The Writing Center values education over editing, and as such will help all students navigate the demands of academic writing, but does not provide an editing or proofreading service.
Bring any documents that will help you and your consultant to better understand the assignment and the needs of your professor. This could include your syllabus, the assignment, grading rubrics, and/or any drafts (including brainstorming or outlines) you have completed.
Specific questions and a positive attitude are also recommended!
The Writing Center is located in the Learning Commons, in the CIC. Consultations will begin the third week of classes through Exam Week of every fall and spring semester.
Consultations are not available on class holidays (including Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Break, MLK Day, Presidents Day, Spring Break) or when campus is closed (including for inclement weather).
The WSUTC Writing Center is a drop-in resource, so no need to make an appointment!
