Workshop Topic:      Write a Resume That Gets You Interviews

This professional career development workshop provides students with practical tips to enhance their resume to compete in today’s tough job market.  Students should bring a laptop or print out their resume to work on during the workshop.

 

February 1st

Workshop Topic:      Prepare for Your Interview

This professional career development workshop helps prepare students to ace their interview and land the job.  Students will learn what to do before, during, and after an interview, how to answer tough questions, and make the best professional impressions.

Workshop Topic:      Prepare for Your Interview

This professional career development workshop gives students the tips and tools to write a powerful cover letter to entice employers to read their resume.  Students should bring a laptop or print out their cover letter to work on during the workshop.

This professional career development workshop will help students hone their networking skills and techniques.

Workshop Topic:      Make the Most of LinkedIn

This professional career development workshop will help students create a LinkedIn profile and build an online presence through LinkedIn resources.  Students should bring a laptop to work on their LinkedIn profile during the workshop.

 

March 1

Workshop Topic:      How to Find Internships & Jobs

This professional career development workshop gives students insight into internships as well as resources and search strategies for job and internship openings. 

 

March 8th

Workshop Topic:      Office Etiquette

This professional career development workshop will teach students office etiquette as well as workplace expectations, and proper behavior in a professional office environment. 

 

March 22nd

Workshop Topic:      Write a Resume That Gets You Interviews

Workshop Topic:      Translating Your Work into Professional Skills

This professional career development workshop will teach students how to take skills from their work experiences (whether it’s fast food or retail) and translate them onto a resume.  Students should bring a laptop with their resume to work on during the workshop.

 

April 5th

Workshop Topic:      Apply to Graduate and Professional School

This professional career development workshop will provide students with tips on how to prepare for graduate and professional schools, how to find the right school, the application process, and how to apply to competitive programs.  Students should bring a laptop to work on their application during the workshop.

 

April 12th

Workshop Topic:      Negotiating Salary & Benefits (Guest Panel)

This professional career development workshop will consist of local Human Resource Managers providing students with insight and tips on how to navigate their first job offer, and what and when to negotiate.

1:00 – 2:00 p.m.              Free hair and make-up consultations and pizza lunch

This annual event helps students learn how to dress in various styles of professional attire throughout their career.  The show features male and female students, faculty, and staff models.

Fashion Show:  Noon to 1 p.m.

FREE Lunch and Consultations:  1 – 2 p.m.

Highlights of the event include:

  • A tie-tying station to learn tying techniques using different types of ties
  • hair and make-up consultations
  • FREE pizza lunch with a soda fountain
  • Door prizes for students attending the event

This event is open to the campus community.

 

Professional Etiquette and Networking Dinner

2770 Consolidated Information Center (CIC)

This annual event offers students a valuable professional development experience to polish their business dining etiquette and networking skills by practicing good table manners and social skills.  In addition, students will gain real-world exposure to formal business settings with area professionals and community leaders.

The evening begins with a “mocktail” speed networking reception.

The Etiquette Dinner will follow with a 4-course meal served in a formal table setting.  As each course is served, students will practice their dining etiquette skills learned prior to the event at Career Development training sessions.  Seating at each table includes a professional and their guest hosting four to five students.

The event includes a guest speaker from the community.

Student Registration instructions:

  • Registration opens February 20th
  • Register through the Career Development CougSync portal ONLY
  • REQUIRED:  attend one of the Etiquette Dinner training sessions offered from February 20 – March 10.  Note: the training and quiz will not be offered online.
  • Pass a short quiz following the etiquette training
  • Pay a $5 fee (degree seeking students only); additional fees apply to other students

Student seating is limited.

This event is open to WSU Tri-Cities students only.  This event is not relevant to student spouses or significant others.

Attire is professional business.

Industry Tours

Industry Tours

Monday, March 13 and Tuesday, March 14, 2017

This event provides students a “behind-the-scene” glimpse and tour of companies in their field of study, observe real workplace environments and professionals doing the jobs students aspire to or are considering in their career path.

The tour will be divided into two days with visits to four companies for each tour day.  Students will be transported to participating companies in a rental van driven by Career Development staff (no self-driving permitted).  Career Development will provide students with snacks and beverages.  Each group will receive lunch sponsored by a company on the tour.  Tours are divided into four groups (majors) each day as follows:

  • Monday Tour:  Civil Engineering, DTC, Hospitality, Computer Science
  • Tuesday Tour: Mechanical Engineering, Science/Medical, Business Management, Psychology/Social Sciences

Vans depart campus at 8:30 a.m. and returns at 3:30 p.m.

          Group days and majors are subject to change.

Seating is very limited and availability is based on a first-come, first-serve basis for WSU Tri-Cities degree seeking students only. Registration will be available through Career Development’s CougSync portal.  Your registration does not confirm your participation.  Students will receive a confirmation via email with additional tour details.

Dress code is business attire.
