Washington State University Tri-Cities is dedicated to creating and maintaining an inclusive learning environment that is rooted in equity. We do this by systematically addressing practices, processes, and policies that sustain existing inequities and perpetuate the exclusion of marginalized groups. As educators, it is part of our professional ethics to promote a sense of belonging for all students, faculty, and staff and to be aware of the impact that privilege, prejudice, marginalization, and discrimination has in the lives of individuals. By understanding the systemic and historical factors that have built current systems of oppression, we are better equipped to incorporate intentional and action-oriented changes that will improve outcomes for our entire community on every level.
We embrace a multi-racial and multi-cultural community and welcome the intersecting identities and lived experiences that each person brings with them. We ascribe to an assets-based framework guided by anti-deficit inquiry and cultural wealth. This allows us to identify and capitalize on the positive attributes that students, faculty, and staff bring to our classrooms and workplaces. This framework also helps us acknowledge how our diverse community contributes value to the WSU Tri-Cities campus environment and experience.
We understand the pathway to equity and inclusive excellence is the responsibility of the entire campus, and it is a continuous intentional process that requires cross-departmental commitment and effort.
