Micro Market replaces traditional cafe at WSU Tri-Cities featuring longer hours

In place of the previously hosted Hospitality Cafe, WSU Tri-Cities now offers a new “Micro Market” that will be open longer and offer a mix of fresh and pre-packaged food items on the first floor of the Consolidated Information Center (CIC).

The market will operate with self-service, meaning that users can select their items off the shelves and pay by pre-loading a Micro Market card, or with their debit or credit card. Instructions for using the new Micro Market cards are on the monitor displays in the market. For users’ safety, the market will be monitored with security cameras.

Prices are similar to that of a standard supermarket deli, and a microwave and sink are available for use in the new Micro Market.

What is a Micro Market?

Serve yourself! Micro markets are unattended retail environments where consumers can engage with products on shelves and in open coolers, allowing them to pick up products, review nutrition information, and more. Consumers use a self-checkout kiosk with a cashless payments system, and pay by credit card, company card or even by thumbprint! Check out the videos below to learn more about micro market trends.

How do I use the Micro Market?

The Micro Market will be open when the campus is open, so no need to run to a convenience store off-campus to get a quick bite to eat. Your hunger will no longer affect late-night study sessions on campus.  You can easily purchase items from the Micro Market with debit, credit, or a Market Card.

Virtually limitless selections with Ice cream, selection of fresh and frozen food, a healthy section of snacks, multiple beverage selections, jerky and a larger variety of sandwich’s located on the first floor of the Consolidated Information Center (CIC).

Shop. Scan. Pay.

It’s as easy as that when you visit the Micro Market.  And paying for purchases are just that simple too.

Avanti Market cards
The Avanti Market card is a barcoded key tag that is associated with your established account and accesses a stored value to pay for purchases.  Account balances can be replenished at the kiosk or online.

Credit or debit cards
You can use most major credit or debit cards or even gift cards issued by the major card brands.
