Traffic delays expected for start of school at WSU Tri-Cities

RICHLAND, Wash. – Due to continuing road construction on George Washington Way in Richland, individuals traveling to Washington State University Tri-Cities for the start of school on Aug. 19 should be aware of construction-related traffic delays.

A road resurfacing project began in mid-July with utility work and asphalt grinding between Van Giesen Street and Sprout Road. According to the City of Richland, lane closures near campus are expected to continue through at least the first few weeks of classes.

Travelers are advised to use alternate routes to campus, such as Jadwin Avenue and Stevens Drive, and to enter campus from University Drive near the Wine Science Center. A minimum of one lane in each direction on George Washington Way will remain open throughout the duration of the project, but delays should be anticipated.

Upon completion of this phase of the project, work is expected to shift south to the area between Guyer Avenue and Van Giesen Street.
