The Cougar Cupboard sponsored by Lamb Weston assists students in meeting their basic needs. With partnerships across campus, the Cougar Cupboard connects students with nutritious food so they have one less worry outside of the classroom to help support their academic success.
Thanks to partnerships with Lamb Weston and Second Harvest, the Cougar Cupboard is regularly stocked. The Cougar Cupboard provides a grocery store shopping experience for students, to allow students to pick up food that fit the needs of their families.
Every year, WSU Tri-Cities administers a student survey. 37 percent of the student population find it difficult to meet their daily living expenses and 7 percent identify as being as risk of homelessness. This program is helping students meet their basic needs. In 2019-2020, the WSU Tri-Cities Cougar Cupboard assisted over 4000 students and their families. This support eliminates at least one stress and has been a way for WSU Tri-Cities to keep students enrolled and on-track for completing their degrees.
WSU Tri-Cities provides free fresh, frozen, and non-perishable items to students in need. This program helps bridge the gap for students so they can successfully meet the basic needs of their family. It receives frozen food and funding from Lamb Weston, fresh food and non-perishable food items from Second Harvest and other generous community partners, and funding for a student worker from the Associated Students of Washington State University Tri-Cities. The Cupboard is restocked regularly, and students should check back often for new items.
