Although reluctant to make this decision, WSU Tri-Cities is canceling our Summer STEM Camps this year due to the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. We had hoped to have more positive news at this time about a definite timeline for when restrictions would be lifted and that we would be able to once again host groups of students on campus. Unfortunately, with continued restrictions on large group gatherings, social distancing, sanitation protocols and access to approved personal protective equipment (masks and gloves) it was determined that, for the health and safety of our campus and our community, not moving forward with the camps at this time would be in everyone’s best interest. We have every confidence that we will be able to return to the regular schedule for camps next year and look forward to seeing students again in the summer of 2021.
Summer STEM Camps at WSU Tri-Cities are designed to be relevant, challenging, and fun! Because of this, educating students using current advancements in science and technology is the key to our curriculum. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education plays an increasingly important role in the United States and we want to prepare students to meet the demand for the growing number of STEM-related careers today and in the future. The Tri-Cities is one of the best places in the country for STEM graduates (NerdWallet, 2016) and our WSU campus is ready with resources to get our local youth ready for these careers.
Each student receives the type personalized instruction that motivates and inspires them to continue solving complex, yet practical problems.
