The WSU Tri-Cities Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) Committee exists to forward the goal of creating a campus environment that is inclusive and diverse and where all students, staff, and faculty have equitable access to opportunity and resources that support their success and wellbeing.
The primary purpose of the IDEA committee is to develop and evaluate campus structures and processes that intentionally decrease barriers to inclusion, diversity, and access and that close equity gaps. The committee will be data-informed and voice driven and will report on their work and findings to the Chancellor at regular intervals.
To ensure that there is some shared language and familiarity with key concepts related to the committee’s work, potential committee members are asked to work through the material found on the Foundational Concepts page.
After reviewing the material, potential committee members can indicate their interest in joining the committee by filling out the short Qualtrics form at the end of the Foundational Concepts page.
Regular representation from the Chancellor’s office, ASWSUTC, and MOSAIC and at least one faculty member is prioritized. At large members will serve staggered two-year terms which can be renewed once. Members may serve on the committee again after rotating off for a term. Committee selection balances indicated interest on the part of potential committee members with the goal of having a committee that represents a diverse set of identities and perspectives across a broad range of campus job types/sectors.

Equity
Equity is a process, product, and practice. As a process, enacting equity illuminates ways in which systems and structures can privilege and/or disadvantage persons or groups. As a product, equity results from a dissolution and/or revision of inequitable system and structures, leading to a balance of opportunity and outcomes for all. Equity as an intentional practice regularly and systematically identifies and disrupts social hierarchies of power and privilege.
Diversity
Diversity recognizes and values the unique lived experiences, perspectives, social identities (e.g., ability, age, class, ethnicity, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status, etc.) and cultural wealth of students, staff, faculty, alumni, and campus partners.
Inclusivity
An inclusive campus is one in which racially minoritized, historically marginalized and underrepresented individuals and groups participate in processes, practices, and decision-and-policymaking in a way that dismantles the status quo of systemic oppression and eliminates minoritization and marginalization in all aspects of campus life.
