The League of Women Voters (LWV) of Benton and Franklin counties will moderate a forum on Initiative 732 (I-732) on September 30, 2016, at 7:00 PM in the WSU-Tri-Cities East Auditorium, in Richland, WA.
I-732 will be on the ballot in Washington in November. If passed, the measure will tax carbon emissions generated by certain fossil fuels and fossil-fuel-generated electricity, with the objective of cutting emissions and thereby helping to combat climate change. The measure is designed to be “revenue neutral,” by virtue of tax swaps and targeted rebates.
At the forum, a representative from Carbon Washington (CarbonWA) will give a brief overview of I-732, followed by representatives of environmental groups and labor organizations describing their support for or opposition to I-732. There will be an opportunity afterwards for written questions from the audience.
The forum will help voters in our community make an informed decision about I-732 when they mark their ballots for or against in November.
