Faculty are invited to join the Writing Program Office for a Writing Across the Disciplines – Writing in the Disciplines lecture.
Teachers and researchers alike have a strong interest in better understanding transfer of learning – that is, how student connect what they know, what they do, and they are as writers from one context to another. Rebecca Nowacek, Associate Professor English at Marquette University, will discuss how common sense understanding of transfer drastically underestimates the complexity of how writers transfer from one context to another. Drawing from data gathered in a multidisciplinary learning community, she argues for a more rhetorical understanding of transfer and offer a model of students as integrative learners.
