WSU Tri-Cities Butch Mascot Program

Butch T. Cougar is an important, nationally recognized symbol of Washington State University.

Washington State University Tri-Cities is thrilled to offer Butch appearances to our campus and local community. Please review this page for information on the process and pricing for requesting a Butch mascot appearance.

How to Request a Butch Mascot Appearance

  1. Submit Butch Request Form at least 10 business days in advance of your event.
  2. Within 5 business days, someone from the WSU Tri-Cities Office of Advancement will follow up on whether request is approved or denied.
  3. If approved, a Butch Appearance Rules and Expectations Agreement will be sent to requestor for review and signature.
  4. If the requestor is an external organization, information on how to pre-pay for the appearance will be sent.
  5. At least three days out from event, requestor must (re)confirm all the following information.
    • Event date
    • Butch appearance start and end time
    • Event location
    • Parking information
    • On-site contact information
    • Location of where to meet once Butch team arrives
    • Confirmation and information of changing room
    • Request for any specific actions/tasks you want Butch to perform
  6. On the day of event, Butch mascot handler will check in with on-site contact if needed.
  7. If the requestor is an internal organization, a signed purchase request must be provided within two business days after the appearance.

Butch Appearance Rates

WSU Internal Organizations/Departments

  • Base Rate (Includes up to 1 hour): $140
  • Hourly Rate (Each Additional Hour): $65

Non-WSU External Organizations

  • Base Rate (Includes up to 1 hour): $150
  • Hourly Rate (Each Additional Hour): $71

Please Note:

  • Base rate will be charged even if appearance duration is under 1 hour.
  • Appearances will be rounded up to the next full hour. For example, if you request for Butch to appear for only 1 hour and 15 minutes, you will be billed for 2 hours.
  • The duration of appearance includes the time for suiting up, suiting down, and any breaks that the performer takes within the requested timeframe.

Butch Appearance Rules and Expectations

The mascot program is essential to the brand of WSU, and that brand identity must be honored and protected in all appearances.

  • Butch should not be placed in situations that are or could become unsafe or inappropriate.
  • The event host must always provide the mascot performer access to a lockable changing room during their scheduled appearance.
  • The Butch performer will receive a 10-minute break for every hour performed.
    • However, the performer reserves the right to step away from the event if a need arises.
  • The event host must provide an on-site point of contact from the beginning until the end of the Butch appearance.
  • Butch appearances are only eligible within the Tri-Cities area.
  • Butch appearances are limited to a maximum duration of four hours.
