Social Justice Institute

Equip and Empower

WSU Tri-Cities hosts an annual Social Justice Institute to equip and empower participants in creating a stronger inclusion environment for all members of the campus community. Students attend lectures, workshops, and discussion groups to explore the foundations, dynamics, and consequences of privilege and oppression at the individual, group, and institutional levels.

Through this facilitated dialogue, students enhance and refine their skills and competencies of contemporary social justice issues.

Meet David

David, a junior majoring in Computer Science, participated in the 2017 Social Justice Institue that focused on the topic “Social Justic in Action.” He says “The lectures, workshops and discussion groups focused on current social justice issues and how WSUTC students can address these issues on campus and in our community. Everyone had something valuable to say because the Social Justice Institute was able to create an environment that encouraged openness and participation. It was an awesome and fun experience that exercised our ability to step into someone else’s shoes and see the world from their perspective.”
