New Coug Orientation

Welcome new Tri-Cities Cougs!

We are so excited that you chose to join our family! New Coug Orientation at Washington State University Tri-Cities is a mandatory program required for all new first year and transfer students and will provide critical information needed to begin their academic journey at WSU.

Transfer students are anyone who applied using the Transfer Admissions Application or have attended an accredited college or university after your high school graduation.

First Year students are students who applied using the WSU First Year Student Admissions Application for the academic year immediately after graduating from high school (even if you’re in Running Start or taking classes in high school for college credit) or you haven’t attended college since high school graduation.

Orientation is held during the summer for students starting in summer and fall semesters and in January for students starting spring semester. All components of programming outlined below are required.

New Coug Orientation is broken up into 2 parts.

Academic Advising

All students must meet with their academic advisor prior to registering for classes each term. Confirmed students will receive emails when it is time to meet with their academic advisor.

You must complete the following prior to meeting with your academic advisor:

  • Complete your Admissions Checklist
  • Confirm your admission by logging in to your FutureCoug Portal to accept you admission and pay the $200 confirmation deposit. This deposit will be applied toward your first semester account balance. Waivers are available for Pell eligible students. If you believe you may qualify for a waiver, please contact us at admissions@wsu.edu or 509-372-7250
  • Complete any placement assessments (MathWriting) needed for Advising & Registration
  • Gather unofficial copies of college transcripts, current college class schedules, or AP scores to bring to with you to your academic advising appointment

On-Campus New Coug Orientation Experience

The On-Campus New Coug Orientation Experience will be your opportunity to come to campus and see what it will be like to be a WSU Tri-Cities Coug! During this half-day experience you will have the opportunity to hear from campus leadership, faculty, staff, and current student leaders about resources and opportunities that exist at WSU Tri-Cities. Your On-Campus Experience will include a tour of campus so come prepared to move around campus and spend a significant amount of time outside. We will also have lunch available for you at each session. You only need to sign up for one session.

We highly encourage you to bring family members with you to the On-Campus Experience. Family is extremely important to your college experience, no matter if family is biological or chosen. You are able to bring 2 family members to the on-campus experience at no additional cost, each family member after than is a $20 charge, due day of. Family members will have their own agenda with sessions designed specifically for family members of students. Students attending La Bienvenida are allowed up to 3 guests.

Only confirmed students are able to register for the on-campus New Coug Orientation. Once the registrations for the on-campus experiences are available, confirmed students will be notified via email.
