WSU Tri-Cities is proud to partner with Million Women Mentors to support the engagement of one million Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) mentors to increase the interest and confidence of girls and women to persist and succeed in STEM programs and careers.
Demi Galindo, a master’s student at WSU Tri-Cities, recently received a call that would change the course of her life. She had been accepted to medical school. Better yet, she had received a tuition waiver for her four years of medical education, with the exception of two semesters during her third and fourth years – an acceptance package that is incredibly rare…it was the research opportunity and mentorship from a WSU Tri-Cities professor that she said truly set her apart from other applicants. Million Women Mentors supports the engagement of one million Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) mentors (male and female) to increase the interest and confidence of girls and women to persist and succeed in STEM programs and careers. MWM is an initiative of STEMconnector in collaboration with over 60+ partners reaching over 30 million girls and women, 45+ corporate sponsors, and 35+ state leadership teams.
Through the engagement of one million mentors, our goals are to:
Increase the percentage of high school girls planning to pursue STEM careers.
Increase the percentage of young women pursuing undergraduate degrees in STEM fields.
Increase the percentage of women staying and advancing in STEM careers through supporting workforce mentoring programs.
