DESCRIPTION:The Crimson Scrubs nursing club will be holding a Flu Shot Clinic from 12 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday\, November 12\, in the East Commons. The flu shot clinic is open to the campus community. \nNursing students and the Safeway pharmacy staff will give FREE flu vaccines to the first 125 students (bring your WSU ID). After the 125 free vaccines are gone\, the cost is $25. This is a discount off the $30 price if you go to Safeway. \nFaculty and staff: Safeway will give vaccines to paying/insurance patients. The cost is $25 or bill to insurance – most plans are accepted.

DESCRIPTION:Quasi-One-Dimensional Quantum Gases: Effective Interactions\, Energetics and Correlations \nSince the first experimental realization of gaseous atomic Bose-Einstein condensates in 1995\, the field of cold atom physics has progressed and matured tremendously. \nNowadays\, the interaction strength of cold atom systems can be tuned essentially at will and the confinement geometry can be adjusted. This talk will summarize our theoretical studies of qusi-one-dimensional harmonically trapped atomic gases. A model Hamiltonian with effective one-dimensional atom-atom interactions will be introduced and its validity will be benchmarked. The excitation spectrum and two-body correlations of small two-component Fermi gases will be analyzed as a function of the interspecies interaction strength. The changes of the structural expectation values reveal an intriguing interplay between the interspecies interactions and the Pauli exclusion principle\, which can be thought of as corresponding to an effective intraspecies repulsion.
