SUMMARY:Wyatt Wineinger to present history of Day's Pay Bomber
DESCRIPTION:On September 28th at the East Auditorium from 6-8PM\, Mr. Wyatt Wineinger\, the son of the pilot of the Day’s Pay bomber\, will be giving a talk about the history of the Day’s Pay bomber and it’s missions and crew. The Day’s Pay was a B-17 bomber purchased by employees of the Hanford Engineer Works in 1944 who were encouraged to “give a day’s pay and send a bomber on its way” to the European theater. The plane was purchased with these individual donations\, had a short ceremony here at the Hanford Construction Camp (about 10 miles north of our campus near the town of Hanford)\, and then flew over 60 missions in Europe before being excessed and scrapped at the end of the war. More historical information on the Day’s Pay can be found at http://www.historylink.org/File/7491. \nThe Hanford History Project is helping a local historian\, Don Sorenson\, plan events commemorating this history. Mr. Wineinger will be visiting us for several days from his home in Holcomb\, KS and this Presentation/Q&A will also feature artifacts and archival material from the Day’s Pay and some of the crew reunions. This talk is open to students\, staff\, faculty\, and the general public. Please tell your students and consider attending what is sure to be an interesting talk and discussion!

SUMMARY:New Student Advising & Registration
DESCRIPTION:Advising and Registration kicks off your new student experience\, and is the first step in the S.O.A.R. program. They are educational sessions that introduce academic resources and will be the first opportunity for new students to register for classes. Advising and Registration sessions typically begin in May and run through the summer. Students are required to attend one session.

SUMMARY:Guest Lecture - Reaction Engineering Seminar on Stirred Tank Laboratory Reactors
DESCRIPTION:Reaction Engineering Seminar on Stirred Tank Laboratory Reactors \nThe Dow Chemical Company\nReaction Engineering Core R&D \nPresented by\nMichael R. Thorson\, Ph.D. – Assoc. Research Scientist \nDeveloped by the Core R&D Reaction Engineering group of The Dow Chemical Company and designed for chemists and engineers who operate or use data from laboratory reactors\, this course contains fundamental reaction engineering knowledge essential for generating high quality data from a laboratory scale stirred tank reactor. The course content includes general principles for designing and operating laboratory reactors. The bulk of the course focuses on stirred tanks for a variety of reaction systems\, including homogeneous liquid phase\, gas-liquid\, liquid-solid\, and gas-liquid-solid systems. At the end of this course\, chemists and engineers will have a better understanding of the critical factors affecting the performance of laboratory scale stirred reactors and the appropriate means for addressing those factors to maximize the probability of success. This course will also introduce a publicly available tool for estimating gradients in heterogeneous catalyst particles and for sizing laboratory fixed bed reactors.
