DESCRIPTION:Each spring\, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation\, as well as in the 4th District of Washington. \nThe Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students in the 4th District. The winning artwork of our district’s competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit in Washington will include the winning artwork from all participating districts from around the country. The winning artwork is also featured on House.gov’s Congressional Art Competition page. \nThe following is a summary of the Congressional Art Competition rules: \nArtwork entered in the contest may be up to 28 inches by 28 inches\, may be up to 4 inches in depth\, and not weigh more than 15 pounds. If your artwork is selected as the winning piece\, it must arrive framed and must still measure no larger than the above maximum dimensions. \n\nPaintings – including oil\, acrylics\, and watercolor\nDrawings – including pastels\, colored pencil\, pencil\, charcoal\, ink\, and markers (It is recommended that charcoal and pastel drawings be fixed.)\nCollages – must be two dimensional\nPrints – including lithographs\, silkscreen\, and block prints\nMixed Media – use of more than two mediums such as pencil\, ink\, watercolor\, etc.\nComputer-generated art\nPhotography\n\nAll entries must be original in concept\, design and execution and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws. Any entry that has been copied from an existing photo or image (including a painting\, graphic\, or advertisement) that was created by someone other than the student is a violation of the competition rules and will not be accepted. Work entered must be in the original medium (that is\, not a scanned reproduction of a painting or drawing). \nAll artwork must be submitted by May 1st to one of the District offices listed below. SUMMARY:April 18: Annual 5K to raise money for student book stipends
DESCRIPTION:Textbooks don’t come cheap\, so the Associated Students of Washington State University Tri-Cities hosts a fundraiser to help students purchase books. \nThe fifth annual Fund the Future 5K Run will be at 9 a.m. Saturday\, April 18\, on the paved path along the Columbia River\, Urban Greenbelt Trail\, behind WSU Tri-Cities. A brunch will follow at 11 a.m. \nWalkers are welcome. For serious runners\, Budu Racing will provide timing chips. Prizes will be awarded to top finishers. \nRegister the day of the race at 7:45 a.m. in front of the West building\, 2710 Crimson Way\, Richland\, or preregister for less through April 15 at http://GoCougs.WSUFoundation.WSU.edu/5KFundTheFuture. \nRegistration fees:\n• General public: $20 preregistered\, $25 day of race.\n• WSU Tri-Cities alumni: $15 preregistered\, $20 day of race.\n• WSU Tri-Cities students and employees: $10 preregistered\, $15 day of race.\n• Kids ages 6-12: $10\n• Kids 5 and under: Free\, and strollers are welcome. The 50-yard dash is immediately before the race start\, so arrive by 8:30 a.m. A bounce house will be set up. \nThe Tri-City Court Club\, Bluewood Ski Resort\, Runner’s Soul\, Greenies\, the Tri-Cities Dust Devils and Trot Therapeutic Riding have donated prizes. \nFor more information\, contact Katie Bair at katie.bair@email.wsu.edu.
