DESCRIPTION:Join us at Hamilton Cellars for fun evening of great wine\, food\, and friends featuring faculty and students of the WSU Tri-Cities Hospitality Business Management and Wine Business Management degree programs. \n \nThe offering of these degree programs in the Tri-Cities just finished its first year. Students in Dr. Robert Harrington’s beverage management course will assist in testing and evaluating food and wine pairings prior to the event and will serve as ambassadors during the event interacting with attendees and discussing flavor profiles and experiences. \nNet proceeds from the event will benefit the hospitality and wine business management programs at the WSU Tri-Cities campus. DESCRIPTION:The 2016-17 WSU Common Reading this year is the memoir I Am Malala: The Story of the Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban by Malala Yousafzai\, with Christina Lamb. \nThe Common Reading featured speaker is Khalida Brohi. \n \nKhalida Brohi is the founder and executive director of the Sughar Empowerment Society\, a nonprofit social enterprise in Pakistan dedicated towards providing tribal and rural women opportunities to grow their skills as well as learn leadership skills in an environment of growth and development. \nBrohi launched Sughar in 2009 (“Sughar” means “skilled and confident woman”) to provide opportunities to unleash the potential of all women in Pakistan\, such as resources to launch and sustain rural businesses. Brohi’s aim over the next 10 years is to change the lives of one million women in Pakistan. \nThis event is free and open to the public.

DESCRIPTION:Jump Start is a fully-funded university experience for incoming freshmen who scored in the 40-60 percentile in the ALEKS placement exam or who placed into ENGLISH 102\, 105\, or 107. \nStudents can choose between Math and academic reading and writing workshops. They will get to know faculty\, learn their way around\, and participate in campus recreation activities. \nThe program runs Monday through Thursday\, between August 8 and August 18. Registration is required.
