Familiar frames bend\, collapse\, or become recognizable as part of the broader context. How does the inclusion of formerly marginalized voices impact discourse about the history and futurity of the Hanford site? Audience participation will be welcomed in a Q&A.  \nThis panel convenes to accompany the exhibition currently on display in the WSU Tri-Cities Art Center\, Hanford Reach: In the Atomic Field\, an installation that explores the paradoxical histories of Hanford\, and reflects the complexities of personal and collective memory. Jessica “Heidi” Stoker obtained a fine art degree from Colorado State University\, along with a minor in art history and a certificate in women’s studies. As a multimedia artist\, she is concerned with the evolution of a piece of art and believes that art has a life of its own. A single piece of her work is intended to change over time through her application of differing media\, including but not limited to hand collected and created pigments and patination. Stoker’s paintings focus on the female figure displayed in self-defining expressions of beauty\, as a way of imposing a wider discussion about beauty itself.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

He is the author of a number of articles and book chapters and two books\, Race and the War on Poverty: From Watts to East LA\, published by the University of Oklahoma Press in 2008\, and Fighting to Preserve a Nation’s Soul: America’s Ecumenical War on Poverty\, published by the University of Georgia Press in 2019. He also is co-editor\, with Robert Franklin\, and co-author of Nowhere to Remember: Hanford\, White Bluffs and Richland to 1943\, published by WSU Press in 2018\, and of a yet untitled forthcoming volume on Race and Diversity in the Hanford region.
