SUMMARY:Innovative Instruction Series: Intro to Transparent Teaching
DESCRIPTION:The Innovative Instruction Series is designed to facilitate and support all ranks of faculty in creating learner-centered curriculum and pedagogy. \nWhat is Transparent Teaching? Developed by Mary-Ann Winkelmes\, Transparent Teaching focuses on the purpose\, task\, and evaluation for each assignment\, lecture\, and project. In other words\, it makes course work and its purpose clear for all students\, regardless of academic background. Dr. Winkelmes’ research has shown that first-generation and low-income students perform better in classes that use transparent teaching methods. This workshop will introduce core concepts of Transparent Teaching and how to incorporate them into your classes. \nThis session will be repeated on Jan. 31 at 3 to 4 p.m.

SUMMARY:Junior Writing Portfolio Timed Write
DESCRIPTION:The Junior Writing Portfolio is a mid-career diagnostic to determine if students’ writing abilities have advanced in ways that can handle the writing demands of upper-division courses and courses in their major. \nSuccessful completion of the Junior Writing Portfolio during the junior year is a requirement for graduation. To meet the requirement\, students must take a timed essay exam and submit a packet of three graded papers. \nRegistration is required for the timed essay exam.
