SUMMARY:POGIL seminar\, 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m.\, on campus
DESCRIPTION:Faculty\, \nThere will be a POGIL (Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning) workshop for faculty on campus on Saturday\, April 26\, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided. Room to be announced to participants. \nhttps://pogil.org/post-secondary \nThe POGIL strategy and philosophy are ideal for incorporating inquiry-based learning into the curriculum. POGIL bridges the gap between concept and understanding\, and provides an innovative classroom model that allows students to work together to construct important concepts of science\, mathematics\, and other disciplines\, as well as cultivate lifelong learning skills. Although developed with chemistry\, POGIL can be used in all disciplines and I strongly encourage your participation. There has been recent development of the method in pre-calculus and first semester calculus courses so please consider participating if you teach 100 and 200 level math courses. \nAcademic Affairs will provide a stipend of $500 to support any new” (has not adopted POGIL in the past) class that chooses to pilot the POGIL method in Fall 2014. Participation in the April workshop is required to receive the stipend. Support may also be available for faculty interested in participating in the annual Northwest two-day workshop held in June (Location and dates TBD). \nThere are only 25-30 participants permitted as we will only have one facilitator. Please let me know as soon as possible if you will attend. \nKate McAteer
