SEPTEMBER RECAP AND UPCOMING EVENTS IN OCTOBER
What Up, Cougs! Here’s a quick September recap and some awesome October events to look out for! In September, we had a lot of great events:
The Student Entertainment Board hosted an Outdoor Movie Night showing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, on September 1st. The event had free drinks and popcorn for students and was projected outside of our new Student Union Building. SEB had an awesome time taking a group of students up to Seattle to watch the Mariners play against the Cleveland Indians on September 23rd! ASWSUTC was tabling in September at the Safety Fair to help students sign up for Campus Alerts. Campus Alerts uses text messaging to communicate directly to students about delays, cancellations, and emergency situations on campus. To sign up for Campus Alerts go to the main portal on MyWSU, find the Box that says “Tri Cities Emergency Info” and click “Update Now” to enter your information.
Your Director of Diversity, Adriana McKinney from ASWSUTC, held an event in recognition of International Day of Peace on 9/20. As a reminder to be mindful and kind in their interactions on the day to day, students received a token of peace at the event.
We also hosted an event called “Let’s Taco ‘Bout It” which focused on the concept of free speech and gave information about hate crimes. At the end of the event, there was a Taco Bar provided for those in attendance of the event.
In addition, we hosted “Connect to Congress”, a letter writing event on September 27th. Those in attendance were provided with materials to write to their congressional representatives, including examples of letters to give constituents a jumping off point on how to address their representatives.
