Leadership Awards

The Office of Student Involvement is proud to offer an opportunity for student leaders and organizations, as well as faculty/staff advisers to be recognized by the university and their peers for their efforts on the WSU Tri-Cities campus. These awards are presented at the Student Leadership Awards in April each year. Award categories include Cultural Impact, Educational Impact, Community Impact, Outstanding Organization, New Outstanding Organization, Most Improved Organization, Advisor of the Year, Unsung Hero/Quiet Influence, and Student Leader of the Year.

The Cultural Impact Award honors an organization that has made significant cultural impact to improve the presence and quality of campus life.

The Educational Impact Award honors an organization that has carried out significant educational programs, increasing the knowledge of an area relevant to the organization’s mission or interest. The Community Impact Award honors an organization that has made a meaningful contribution to the surrounding community through service.

The Outstanding Organization Award honors a student organization that demonstrated consistent flexibility, initiative, creativity, and perseverance. This organization must have made a meaningful contribution to students, the University, and/or the surrounding community, organized activities, events, and programs that have had a significant impact on the quality of campus life and WSU Tri-Cities.

The Outstanding New Organization Award honors the outstanding achievements of a new student organization that gained an active status in the current academic year. This organization must have shown the ability to meet the goals and objectives as stated in their constitution, demonstrated a high level of achievement in one or more areas, such as membership involvement, organization development, leadership training and opportunity for members, shown active participation in campus activities, and community service.

The Most Improved Organization Award honors the dedication of a student organization who has shown improvement in activities that meet the goals and objectives as stated in their constitution. This organization must have sponsored activities that have caused change and improvement for the organization, growth in the organization membership, increased member involvement and development, improved programs, created opportunity for member participation, and collaboration with other campus organizations or events.

The Advisor of the Year Award honors an outstanding advisor that has gone above and beyond in contributing to student organization life.

The Quiet Influence/Unsung Hero Award honors a student that puts his/her heart and soul into everything he/she does, but often goes unrecognized, works “behind the scenes,” and goes above and beyond typical requirements of a student organization member.

The Student Leader of the Year Award honors a student leader who provided exemplary service, commitment, and strong leadership to a student organization at WSU Tri-Cities. The student leader has made a meaningful contribution to members of the organization, motivated the group, made him/herself available to student organization members and brought out strengths and talents of individuals in the group, exemplified integrity in all words and actions, demonstrated initiative by seeking ways to challenge the present and enrich the future.
